The Effect of Estrogen on Wound Healing in Rats

چکیده
Objective: Cutaneous wound healing involves multiple cooperative molecular processes such as inflammation, angiogenesis, wound contraction, granulation tissue formation, reepithelialization, and matrix deposition. We studied the effects of topical estrogen on wound healing in male rats. Methodology: This experimental study was done on 40 male rats. A circular wound with a diameter of 2cm was induced on each rats right flank. Twenty rats received topical estrogen (case group). And twenty other rats received placebo (control group). After the 5th, 10th, 15th, 30th, 35th, 40th and 45th days, healing process was compared between the two groups. Results: On the 10th and 20th days the total healing surface in the case group was about 89.9% and 100% respectively and 75% and 98,4% (p<0.05 and P>0.05)in the control group. Microscopic views revealed the formation of epithelial layer and hair follicles, progressive angiogenesis without scarring in case group. But neither hair follicles nor complete epithelial layer in the control group Conclusion: Topical estrogen administration results in significant progress of cutaneous wound healing, leaving no scar or crust formation. Topical estrogen administration accelerates healing without changing plasma estrogen level and can minimize the probable wound complications.

متن کاملEstrogen Accelerates Wound Angiogenesis In Rats
Background and Objective: Angiogenesis is a complex program of several steps and it is tightly regulated by pro- and anti-angiogenic factors. Angiogenesis is one of the key elements in cutaneous wound healing and skin cancers. Estrogen seems to have positive modulating effect on cutaneous wound healing and this effect may be explained by its angiogenic properties. This study aims to investig...

Background and aim: Shortening of the duration of wound healing is an attractive subject for investigators in recent years. In this study, the effects of topical phenytoin, silver sulfadiazine, estrogen and their combination on wound healing were evaluated.Materials and Methods: This experimental study was accomplised on 30 male albino rats, which had an approximate wei...
متن کاملEffect of Topical Estrogen in the Mangement of Traumatic Facial Wounds
Introduction: Acute skin wound healing is a complicated process comprising various phases. Recent animal studies have shown that steroid sex hormones such as estrogen maybe helpful in the regulation of several pathophysiologic stages that are involved in wound healing. In this study we examined the effects of topical estrogen in the treatment of traumatic facial wounds. Materials and Methods:...

Propolis is a resinous, sticky substance that bees collect from conifer buds and use to repair cracks in their hives. Propolis was used in folk medicine as early as 300 BC as an anti-inflammatory drug and wound healing agent. We studied the effect of Propolis on wound healing in albino rats. Twenty male albino rats had a linear 3 cm incision made over skin of back. The animals were randomly div...
